Growing up
Even though I was surrounded by creativity as a kid, fear and doubt that I had anything of significance to offer kept me rooms away from paint brushes and sketch pads. Because I didn’t believe I could create anything “good,” I didn’t bother trying and focused my efforts elsewhere. And then? An art therapy class, mentorship, and hundreds of hours surrendered to the process. I was mesmerized, I was inspired. And that which I had hidden far from for so very long finally decided it was time to come out and play.
And I have been playing (and praying!) ever since.
Over time, making time to connect through art has become essential in my walk with God. It’s become one of the best ways I sabbath—pausing and resting from the processing of life. It’s offered powerful resets and times of remembering God’s faithfulness.

The art of creating reminds me of who God is, who I am, and how I want to live.
